First Silver Spoon - Joint Post, Video/Action for New Bark

[The boy who appears on the other end of the feed is sitting outside, in New Bark Town, if the gently waving trees and the windmill in the background are anything to go by. He appears deep in thought. In contrast to this, a sharply-grinning face appears over his left shoulder, all teeth and claws and hard, cold, gemstone eyes. Since Sableye aren't native to New Bark Town, that must clearly be his starter.]

Out of one game and into another, then.

[Piercing green eyes meet the camera from behind white-framed glasses.]

I presume I'm far from the first person to come here. ...Perhaps, even, not the first from my world – since this obviously is not the world I come from. I may have catching up to do, but mark my words: Byakuya Togami does not lose. Anyone who stands in my way will fall. So remember my face, and don't waste your t—

[But then, abruptly, the feed goes wild and veers away from his face; hopefully nobody watching gets motion sickness, because if so, they might want to avert their eyes. But given the angle and direction of the camera shift, combined with the brief flash of the boy's astonished expression before it disappears completely from view, it seems that someone has just snatched the Gear right out of his hand.

Which would be an entirely accurate conclusion to draw, really. Suffice to say, the camera is now displaying a rather attractive shot of the tip of someone's boot and a fair expanse of slightly matted grass.]

Don't be so quick to sacrifice your anonymity with needless posturing. There's nothing to be gained from ceding that advantage — particularly not in a place where that name almost certainly means nothing to anyone.

[...Does somebody want to get this man some ice for that burn.]

[The aforementioned boy huffs in the background, his hand appearing on the camera as he tries to take it back like a nerd who's become the victim of a cruel game of keep-away.]

Have you even read the training manual? A place that asserts the goal of becoming "the very best, like no one ever was" is not a bastion of subtlety.

[Then, almost sulkier,]

When did you even get here?

[JUST WHEN HE THOUGHT HE WAS SAFE.

Eventually, though, his superior height and reach everything manage to get control of the Gear back, and amid the shuffle, the second voice speaks again.]

About twenty minutes ago. [A beat.] I've been looking around. Haven't you?

[Even when his gear is back in his own possession, he doesn't bother aiming it at his face. However, he will flash Johto a shot of the lovely, lavender-haired girl who so rudely interrupted his arrogant pontificating.]

I've been reading the materials provided about this place and the creatures who inhabit it. [A smug, punchable beat.] Haven't you?

I wanted to see what my own investigations turned up first. But it'd be useful to see how much of my evidence is corroborated by yours; turn that off and let's compare our findings instead.

[For the first time since the girl appeared, Togami actually pays attention to the gear, and he scowls at it before flicking the camera off as requested.]

[Naegi-kun don't make her blushdesu in front of Togami-kun she'll never live it down.]

You told me something? [ He looks like he wants to ask her to say it right away. But he manages to refrain. ] ...All right. I look forward to hearing it.

By the way, do you want to borrow my Sawsbuck? He's big enough to carry two people and riding on a Pokémon takes a lot less time than walking.

[It's not like she'd tell him, anyway, even if he did ask. Forever cryptic, Kirigiri-san.]

Anything that lets us move faster at this point would be helpful. I'm not concerned about my own ability to make the trip, but...

[But SHSL Drama Queen here will probably pitch an unholy fit at the thought of sleeping on the ground or within thirty feet of dirt. And while the thought of just ditching him and making for Violet herself is a tempting one — and arguably, what she would've done prior to character development — it might be for the best to stick together on this one. At least for awhile.

Meanwhile, she's going to go check the Dex to figure out what they're dealing with here, as far as a Sawsbuck is concerned.]

The soonest we'll be able to make a transfer is Cherrygrove City; that's three days from now. There doesn't seem to be public PC access anywhere in this town.

[...Which isn't to say she won't go break into the Professor's lab and see if there's private access available, but still. Public network, caution is good.]

BY THE WAY NAEGI-KUN HAVE YOU MET HER NINCADA

SHE'S JUST GOING TO HOLD IT UP WITH HER HERE isn't it cute.]

It's called a Nincada. The Dex says they like to keep to the shadows and rarely come above ground.

[And she didn't miss the significance of that, which admittedly bothers her a little — ah, but Naegi only just woke up in the garbage room, didn't he, so he hasn't heard her story during the long climb together.

Well, then, she'll just remain cryptic and amused. It's better than being cryptic and unsettled.]

They are. I started with a Togepi. She's a Togetic now, though.

[ He waves at something off the camera to come closer and a Togetic comes into view. It lands on Naegi's shoulder and peers at the PokéGear. ]

The species is a symbol of good luck and happiness according to the Pokédex.

Then they're chosen...because of something about us? Which suggests that whoever is behind this, the person giving them out...they've observed us prior to bringing us here.

I've been thinking about that too, Kirigiri-san. Fujisaki-kun started with a Porygon, a computer program Pokémon. Asahina-san got a Water-type.

Mine is...

[...They can talk about that later.]

Togami-kun has a Sableye. Along with having no type weaknesses, it seems as though it follows him around about as slavishly as Fukawa-san.

[...Someone's been watching them.]

What about Ishimaru-kun and Oowada-kun?
superordinary: (pic#5816316)

video;

[personal profile] superordinary 2013-08-20 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ishimaru-kun started with a Darumaka. It looks a lot like a Daruma doll...in other words, it's probably meant to represent his strong determination.

[ And all the other nice things google says the dolls symbolize. Look at Naegi being observant here. ]

Oowada-kun started with a Scraggy.

[As she's saying this, she's checking up on those particular Pokemon via the Dex, and with each new click she's liking the implications less and less.]

And when you've spoken with people who aren't from our world, have they also fit this emerging pattern?

[They were broadcast to the world, after all, so it's understandable that the mastermind here would know about them. But that shouldn't be the same for all worlds, should it? So if it is, that says something about this mastermind — and if not, it indicates something about their world.]

[personal profile] superordinary 2013-08-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think so. People ask about all sorts of thing on the network, so one of us can make a broadcast asking about it or post a survey of some sort and see what other people have to say about their starters.

You should ask Fujisaki-san's help with that. She's the expert when it comes to technology like this, isn't she?

[And if there is some mastermind out there observing them even now, Fujisaki probably stands a better chance than anyone of doing something about it.]
